Mt. Bachelor’s Newest Lift, the Cloudchaser

Snow lovers have been eagerly anticipating this one—there’s a new $6 million chairlift coming to Mt. Bachelor’s east side. Slated to open in mid-December in time for the holiday season, Cloudchaser is a high-speed, detachable quad lift that provides access to 635 acres of new terrain and over six miles of groomed trails, bringing Bachelor’s total skiable terrain to over 4300 acres and making it the 5th largest ski resort in the country. It’s been 20 years since a new lift has been put in at Bachelor, and Cloudchaser is expected to serve more than 2400 people an hour, helping to alleviate capacity challenges and long lift lines.

Cloudchaser’s strategic location on the mountain’s east side means that it’s greater protected from the elements during inclement weather and can continue operating when some of the west side lifts are challenged by storm cycles. Another bonus, the east side of the mountain is comprised of fairly intermediate terrain. “It will be a great area for new skiers and snowboarders to build confidence after conquering our Sunrise lift,” says Stirling Cobb, marketing and communications director for Mt. Bachelor. “For the more advanced skiers and snowboarders, all of the off-piste terrain is really playful and rolly.” Catch a lift on Cloudchaser and explore some new territory this winter.
