Stand on Liquid
Have you tried stand up paddle boarding yet? The sport continues to grow in popularity and Central Oregon is a great place to pick it up. Beginners will have the best luck at a lake on a calm weather day—flat water is your friend, wind is not. Try Elk Lake, Lava Lake or Devil’s Lake, all located off of Cascade Lakes Highway. As you get more confident in your ability, try SUP-ing on the Deschutes River.
The river near the Old Mill District and by Mirror Pond are popular destinations, without an overly strong current. Consider getting started with a lesson with Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe. Stand up paddle board rentals are available at Stand on Liquid, Sun Country Tours, Tumalo Creek and other outfitters. This summer, find out how much fun it is to stand on water!
