Shakespeare in the Park
What light from yonder window breaks? ‘Tis Shakespeare in the Park performed by the Northwest Classical Theatre Company. The Portland-based thespian troupe will fill the Central Oregon air with three performances of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors this summer. The 5th annual cultural event will be held August 21 and 22 in Bend’s Drake Park and August 23 at Sunriver’s SHARC Amphitheater.
Here’s your chance to brush up on your Early Modern English, dust off your dry wit and catch one of the Bard’s earliest plays in a picturesque Central Oregon setting. The stars in the sky will compete with those on stage as veteran Shakespearean performer Grant Turner directs the theatre company as they breathe new life into the classics.
Comedy of Errors follows a pair of identical twins separated at birth as their paths cross and hilarity ensues. This tale of mistaken identity pulls no punches with its mixed bag of puns, word play and humor.
Proceeds from the events benefit Arts Central, the arts and culture council for Central Oregon, in their endeavors to provide arts services to the communities, artists and arts organizations in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties.
Don’t be left to lament, “O, had I but followed the arts!”
Seats begin at $22, while VIP tickets, complete with premium seating, dinner and two drinks, cost $75. Doors open at 6 p.m., with performances starting at 7 p.m.
